German Club Sydney

ABOUT US

History
The Concordia German Club was established in 1883 in a building located next door to the GPO in George Street and is one of the oldest clubs in NSW. It has served not only the German Community over the past 120 years but has been a long-standing institution in the cultural life of the wider Sydney Community for more than a century. The club has provided a link for the German speaking communities to their homeland but equally importantly has given Sydneysiders an opportunity to experience German hospitality, cultural activities and traditional German functions. The club has been multicultural for many years, long before the term became popular. The atmosphere, the entertainment, the food and our bar are distinctly German in character. In a word we offer German "Gemuetlichkeit" for all Sydneysiders to experience and enjoy.

Recent Developments
After more than 50 years at Stanmore the club recently relocated to Tempe. The club building is located at Mackey Park in Richardson's Crescent Tempe, next to Cooks River and directly opposite Tempe railway station.
We are a fully licensed club and our doors are open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon. Our Bistro serves traditional German dishes and is open for Lunch and Dinner on these three days (see FOOD & BEVERAGES). Entertainment is provided on most Sunday afternoons. For details see ENTERTAINMENT.
Our faclities include a club auditoriom with a dance floor and seting for 250.

Plans for the Future
Our relocation to Tempe is also a process of renewal and rejuvenation. Being located in an open space surrounded by lawns and trees and next to a river provides an opportunity to develop new attractions and activities. These will include the establishment of a restaurant with river views.

The development plan also includes a terrace adjoining the new auditorium where families can enjoy a BBQ meal under an umbrella on weekends. The club will retain its German character in terms of the entertainment and a German restaurant but will be family based. Our aim is to have an open door and create a welcoming atmosphere where families can meet and enjoy a glass of German beer, small club hospitality and "Gemuetlichkeit"

Full implementation of the building program will take some time, possibly two years. However the Bistro, our regular functions and the atmoshere are well established, here and now. We are a niche club enjoyed by all who have discovered us. We are the "German Club in the Park".
